The desk answers已核实Walnut, from public filings

What loosened first was the board makers, and it loosened first in the share prices: Shenghong Technology topped out on May 26, a full month earlier than Huazheng New Material, Nanya New Material, Shengyi Technology and Xinqi Micro Equipment. But these three fell together on October 27 not because the industry chain transmitted the same bad news at the same moment — on that same day the two copper-clad laminate companies barely moved, Shengyi Technology down 2.64% and Nanya New Material down 0.63%, and among the board makers Wus Printed Circuit actually rose 0.30%. The only ones that truly fell were Huazheng (limit-down, turnover 4.00 billion yuan), Xinqi (-10.40%) and Shenghong (-7.40%), while the Shanghai Composite fell 1.33% that day, the electronics sector fell 3.95%, and main funds flowed out of electronics a net 12.232 billion yuan. This is the same kind of position being flattened by the same kind of force, not the same chain loosening at the same moment.
First, correct three premises. Huazheng is not "no announcement": it disclosed its 2026 third-quarter report on October 23, October 26 was the first trading day after the report and it closed limit-down, and on October 27 it hit limit-down for another one. Xinqi and Shenghong indeed have not yet released third-quarter reports: Xinqi's Hong Kong announcement of October 16 stated that the board had set October 28 for a meeting to approve the third-quarter results for the period ended September 30, meaning that when it fell 10.40% on October 27, the third-quarter report had not yet been born; Shenghong's most recent announcement is the October 16 chairman's proposal to repurchase. As for "the whole chain falling together," on October 27 the two copper-clad laminate companies plus the board makers Wus and Shennan — three of the four fell within 3%, and the remaining one was still rising. This chain did not fall together; it was a batch of high-level stocks being sold together on the same trading day.
Now look at what this report that sent Huazheng limit-down actually says. Third-quarter single-quarter operating revenue 2.650 billion yuan, up 140.77% year-on-year; single-quarter gross margin 36.06%, versus 12.48% in the same period last year and 18.72% in the second quarter; single-quarter net profit attributable to the parent 627 million yuan, up 3044.60% year-on-year; excluding non-recurring items 627 million yuan, with single-quarter non-recurring gains and losses of only 193,400 yuan — excluding non-recurring items and attributable to the parent are almost identical — not one cent of this quarter's profit was pieced together from asset sales, government subsidies or investment income. The company's stated reason, in its original words, is "mainly because the unit price and sales volume of copper-clad laminate rose in this reporting period."
But this report hides a more important number: fixed assets at the end of the third quarter 2.609 billion yuan, versus 2.590 billion yuan at the start of the year; construction in progress fell from 141 million yuan to 43 million yuan, and cash paid for the purchase and construction of long-term assets in the first three quarters was 159 million yuan, versus 166 million yuan in the same period last year. Not an ounce of capacity was added, yet single-quarter revenue went from 1.101 billion yuan in the same period last year to 2.650 billion yuan. That is to say, the 36.06% gross margin comes almost entirely from price, not from new capacity. This kind of profit has the greatest elasticity, and it also withstands a single pause in price the least. In the same period single-quarter operating cash flow was only 182 million yuan, 29% of net profit; accounts receivable 3.435 billion yuan, versus 1.752 billion yuan at the start of the year, up 96.1%. Copper-clad laminate accounted for 85% of its revenue in the first half (2.516 billion yuan/2.960 billion yuan), and the first-half gross margin was 13.8%, versus 8.7% in the same period last year — the price increase began to accelerate in the second quarter and was only fully realized in the statements in the third quarter.
Put the readings of the three links side by side, and "who loosened first" becomes clear. On the board maker side, Shenghong's main business (PCB) gross margin fell from 33.1% in the first half of 2025 to 28.6% in the first half of 2026, down 4.5 percentage points, while main business revenue rose from 8.560 billion yuan to 10.839 billion yuan (+26.6%); by quarter it is even clearer, 38.83% in the second quarter of 2025, then 35.19%, 33.51%, 34.46%, 32.10%, stepping down for four consecutive quarters, a cumulative drop of 6.73 percentage points, while single-quarter revenue rose from 4.719 billion yuan to 6.110 billion yuan. In the same link, in the same year, Wus went from 41.28% in the second quarter to 44.02% in the third quarter, and Shennan from 32.41% in the second quarter to 34.86% in the third quarter — both expanding. On the copper-clad laminate side, Huazheng's third-quarter single quarter was 36.06% and Nanya's third-quarter single quarter 38.06%; Shengyi has not yet released its third-quarter report, and its latest second-quarter single quarter is 32.63% (28.10% in the first quarter). The equipment side has not loosened at all: Xinqi's second-quarter single-quarter gross margin was 44.87%, still rising from 40.94% in the first quarter; first-half contract liabilities 147 million yuan, versus only 57 million yuan at the start of the year.
The money went from the board makers toward the copper-clad laminate makers, and the price gap in the middle is the distribution result of this round of price increases. But one thing must be made clear: the 4.5 points Shenghong lost were not all taken by copper-clad laminate. At Shenghong's September 15 earnings briefing, management's original words in answer to "why did the gross margin instead decline" were: "The company's recent gross margin pressure comes mainly from two factors: first, expansion of personnel reserves, with headcount up more than 30% in the first half, with a large number of personnel in the training and reserve stage, preparing for subsequent order production; second, increased depreciation from the continuous transfer to fixed assets of new plant and equipment." Its cash paid for the purchase and construction of long-term assets in the first half was 7.076 billion yuan, versus 2.159 billion yuan in the same period last year; construction in progress rose from 3.610 billion yuan at the start of the year to 5.223 billion yuan. The loosening in this link is half squeezed by upstream, and half the company itself booking costs into profit and loss ahead of time during its expansion period.
So the order is three layers, not a single line. On share prices, the board makers loosened first: Shenghong peaked on May 26, a month earlier than Huazheng, Nanya, Shengyi and Xinqi on June 25 to 26. Measured from their respective highs to today, Xinqi is down 57.3%, Shenghong 55.7%, Nanya 48.2%, Shengyi 47.9%, Shennan 43.2%, Huazheng 37.8% and Hushi 36.0% — the whole chain has been falling since June, and October 27 was just the last leg. On gross margin, the board makers also loosened first, peaking at 38.83% in Q2 2025 and falling to 32.10% over four quarters. Copper-clad laminate is the last link, and it has only just peaked: Huazheng's 36.06% in the third-quarter report is its top; capacity was not added and profit came entirely from price, so the moment prices stop, gross margin gives it straight back. The equipment link has not loosened; its gross margin and advances from customers are both still rising.
Why exactly these three fell together on October 27 — the answer is in the chips, not in the orders. Look at Huazheng's trading: on October 23 it surged to the limit-up price of 208.89 yuan intraday, then was smashed down to 176.00 yuan and closed at 201.65 yuan, with 66.15 yi yuan traded all day; the next trading day, October 26, the first trading day after the third-quarter report, it closed limit-down on only 16.29 yi yuan of turnover; on October 27 it fell limit-down again, with 39.98 yi yuan traded and turnover of 15.23%. On the Dragon-Tiger list, institutional dedicated seats were net sellers of 1.17 yi yuan, brokerage branch seats were net buyers of 1.64 yi yuan, Shanghai Stock Connect was a net buyer of 58.40 wan yuan, and main-force funds saw a net outflow of 3.37 yi yuan — institutions were leaving, hot money was catching. Among its top ten shareholders in the third-quarter report, Fang Wenyan newly appeared with a 4.96% stake, the second-largest shareholder who came in only in the third quarter. Xinqi was newly added as a top-ten heavy holding by Fuanda Industry Select in the third quarter, and Shenghong is the board maker among these three with the most aggressive capacity expansion and the heaviest front-loaded costs (70.76 yi yuan of long-term assets purchased and constructed in the first half, versus 21.59 yi yuan a year earlier). That day, public funds' third-quarter reports were collectively reviewing this round of drawdown; Feng Ludan of Zhong Ou Fund wrote that "it is not that the fundamentals of all industries are under pressure simultaneously, but that growth assets with previously high expectations, high gains and relatively concentrated chips have gone through a rather violent rebalancing of valuation, expectations and holding structure" — that sentence is the annotation for those three stocks on October 27.
The strongest opposing argument is this: copper-clad laminate is the link that loosened first. The reason is that price increases have already pushed downstream to the limit, and demand destruction will show up first in orders; Huazheng's two limit-downs are precisely the market pricing in "the end of the price-increase cycle," and the board makers' gross margin decline is only a time lag in the pass-through of material costs — once copper-clad laminate quotes fall back, board makers' gross margins will recover, and at that point the "loosened first" order reverses entirely. I accept half of this opposing argument. The numbers that cut it apart are in Hushi and Shennan: if Shenghong's gross margin decline were only because it bought copper-clad laminate at higher prices, then Hushi and Shennan, buying the same batch of copper-clad laminate at the same time, should not have expanded gross margin — yet from Q2 to Q3, on a single-quarter basis, one expanded by 2.7 percentage points and the other by 2.5 percentage points. So at least part of what Shenghong lost is its own ramp-up cost, not money from the chain; the remaining part is material pass-through, which does exist and will indeed be given back when copper-clad laminate prices fall — on that day, the link that loosened first becomes copper-clad laminate.
Four numbers can kill this judgment. If Shenghong's single-quarter gross margin in the third-quarter report (due to be disclosed by October 31 at the latest) returns above 34%, then "board makers loosened first" means I read capacity ramp-up as a trend, and the judgment is void. If Huazheng's single-quarter gross margin in the fourth quarter is still above 36% and Nanya's fourth quarter is still above 38%, then "copper-clad laminate peaked in the third quarter" is wrong and the price increases are still continuing. If Xinqi's third-quarter report, disclosed after its October 28 board meeting, shows revenue year-on-year growth dropping below 30% and contract liabilities falling back from 1.47 yi yuan, then "equipment has not loosened" is wrong, and equipment actually loosened earlier than the board makers. If the three board makers' fourth-quarter capital expenditure guidance is revised down, equipment orders will react before equipment financial statements do — that is the chain's true first loosening point, not the limit-downs of these three stocks now. On timing, watch three nodes: the October 31 third-quarter disclosure deadline, the new round of copper-clad laminate quotes in November, and the January earnings pre-announcements.
